Gone are the days when viruses were just for PCs. As Macs grew in popularity and took the top spot for most used home computers, the virus creators turned their focus to Apple.
There is a wide variety of antivirus software for Mac to choose from from the big name brands to new emerging companies. I decided that I would take a look at this Antivirus for Mac software, after seeing an array of positive reviews online and see for myself.
Bitdefender is a Romanian company founded at the turn of the century and has been creating antiviruses for over twenty years with the singular vision to become the most trusted cybersecurity technology provider in the world.
The website boasted the following features:
- Real-time protection against viruses and ransomware
- Adware blocking and removal
- VPN included for a fast, anonymous and secure online experience – 200 MB/day/device
- Protection for all your browsing, including online shopping and banking
- Time Machine Protection for your backed-up files in case of a ransomware attack
The install process was quick and easy and whilst it required temporary internet access for tracking and analytics, I was up and running in no time at all. I opted for a full system scan instead of the quick scan to begin with. The initial scan was fast and didn’t slow the computer down during the scan, so I was able to continue my work.
Once scanned I was able to protect my files and those on my time machine as well as active web protection for surfing the internet with peace of mind.
The interface is clean and clear with an easy-to-use dashboard from which to turn on and of a variety of protection options. The notifications tab allows users to see the times and dates of all the previous scans and keeps a log of all useful information. The notifications can be easily grouped by information, all the way to critical allowing you to see the most important notices first.
A nice surprise was the addition of a VPN service meaning I had access to online privacy protection, bandwidth improvements and the ability to access region-blocked services like Netflix.
Overall, my experience with Bitdefender was hugely positive and the security and peace of mind are fantastic. The software was easy to install, fast to run and found a couple of viruses that my previous software failed to pick up. Now I only need to run periodic smaller scans, I am safe in the knowledge that my 1.3 million files are safe and protected.
If you are interested in trying one of the Bitdefender family of products or if like me, you have an Apple Mac that could benefit from a deep scan then you can download the software and enjoy a free 30-day trial. This way, you can try before you buy.
